Ohio Representative fights for mandatory seat belts in buses

by Administrator 18. May 2010 03:17

Ohio Rep. Kathleen Chandler D-Kent is calling for seat belts on school buses after an incident where children were thrown out of their seats after their school bus flipped over. School buses are not required to have seat belts because the high-backed padded seats are able  protect the children, but Chandler is fighting that this is not enough.

Chandler will be giving a testimony to the Ohio House to propose that school buses that are bought, rented, or leased as of Jan. 14, 2014 should be required to have lap and shoulder seat belts. The bill that Chandler is promoting also includes a recommendation that the district put disciplinary action into place for students who fail to buckle their seat belts.
