Widow of Cintas Worker Demands Unsealing of Evidence

by Administrator 1. October 2009 02:13

The widow of a Cintas worker who died in 2007 when he fell into an industrial dryer is asking a judge to unseal the evidence she's using to sue the uniform supplier.  The woman agreed to a protective order on the evidence when the trial began, but her attorney alleges that the Cincinnati-based Cintas is taking advantage of the confidentiality of documents relating to the accident and running a misleading publicity campaign.  As long as the documents are sealed, the lawyer says, the costs and duration of the suit are being driven up unnecessarily.

The lawyer further alleges that Cintas is running a positive media campaign that would be refuted if the sealed documents were made public.  Cintas denies the allegations.

Heat-Related Illnesses

by Administrator 1. July 2009 01:47

During the hot months of summer, many individuals who work outside may find that their bodies are struggling to maintain the same workload that it handled in the previous, cooler times of the year.   These individuals may be put at risk for a number of heat-related illnesses if they do not take the proper precautions to maintain a normal body temperature.  Children who participate in summertime sports are also at risk of suffering from these emergencies if their coaches do not ensure that they are hydrated, well-rested, and allowed to cool off.

Common Heat Illnesses

Those who exert themselves in extremely hot conditions are putting themselves at risk of suffering a heat-related illness.  The most common of these conditions are heat exhaustion and heatstroke:

Heat Exhaustion: this condition can lead to heatstroke, and is signified by heavy sweating, muscle cramps, quick breaths, and a weak pulse
Heatstroke: this condition may be life-threatening and its symptoms include dizziness, dry skin, and a fast, strong pulse

Overheating may also cause individuals to develop heat rashes, cramps, swelling, or hyperventilation.  While these conditions are not as dangerous as heat exhaustion or heatstroke, they should be taken as signs that it is time to cool off, rehydrate, and rest for a while.

Crumple Zone Accidents

by Administrator 1. July 2009 01:44

The crumple zone of a vehicle is a special designed area of the structure that is designed to collapse in the event of an accident in order to absorb the brunt force of the impact.  Crumple zones are intended to protect the automobile’s passengers from sustaining major accident-related injuries.  When these features are not designed or manufactured properly, however, occupants may sustain very serious injuries in the case of a collision with another structure or vehicle.

The Responsibility of Manufacturers

Automobile manufacturing companies have the responsibility of providing their customers with safe and reliable products that have properly functioning crumple zones.  When a crumple zone – either in the front or rear of the automobile – fails to distribute an impact force to other areas of the vehicle and away from its passengers, those inside the car may be at risk of suffering very serious injury or even death.

If you have been harmed in a collision because of a defective crumple zone, then you have the right to take legal action against the company responsible for this flaw.  Call Cincinnati personal injury lawyer Shawn M. Stepleton today to learn more about your legal options.

Energy Drinks and Alcohol

by Administrator 15. June 2009 23:56

Combining alcohol with energy drinks has recently become a popular trend among many young adults.  This mixture allows its consumers to imbibe a large amount of alcohol without experiencing its depressive and tiring effects.  This attribute has attracted many young people looking for a “buzz.”  In fact, since the demand for such blends has been so high, several pre-mixed beverages have been introduced on the market in response.  Recently, however, dangerous consequences of ingesting both stimulants and depressants have begun to surface.

The Dangers

Common sense indicates that mixing alcohol with strong stimulants (like many of the energy drinks available for purchase) may have dangerous side effects on the human body.  Research studies have shown that this is, in fact, the case.  Combining energy drinks and alcohol has both direct and indirect, dangerous effects on the consumer, including the following:

Failure to notice the incapacitating effects alcohol is having on the body, and as a result either drinking too much or taking dangerous actions, such as getting behind the wheel of a car
Having an adverse reaction to the stimulants in the energy drink
Being physically unable to handle the combination and consumption of such large amounts of stimulants and depressants
Extreme dehydration

It is important that those who choose to drink energy beverages and alcohol in combination with each other are aware of these possible dangers.
