Ohio Bus Accident Injures 6

by Administrator 13. October 2009 01:58

Six were injured and taken to the hospital after an accident in which a Jeep Cherokee slammed into a school bus.  Four of the injured were elementary school students.  The bus was carrying 26 children ranging in ages from kindergarten through 4th grade to school when the Jeep hit the bus as it was trying to cross Ohio 32.  The Jeep slammed into the side of the bus, pushing it off the road but not flipping it.  Although the four children did not sustain any major injuries, they were taken to the hospital for observation.  The driver of the Jeep was seriously injured, and was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Cincinnati.  A child riding in the Jeep was also taken to the hospital, but, like the children from the school bus, was not seriously injured.

The Dangers of Mislabeled Food Products

by Administrator 19. July 2009 23:27

When food products are not properly labeled, the pose a threat to many of their consumers.  Those with food allergies or intolerances may suffer severe reactions to products that do not have the proper ingredient listings on them.  Consumers have a right to know what risks are associated with ingesting certain edibles, and failure on the manufacturer’s behalf to provide that information holds them accountable for any injuries sustained, as covered by product liability law.

Dangerous Food Allergies

When food products are not properly labeled, those with food allergies or intolerances may experience dangerous and life-threatening reactions to these items.   Common food allergies include the following:

Lactose (milk)
Eggs
Peanuts
Nuts from trees
Fish
Shellfish
Soy
Wheat

The above food items account for approximately 90% of all food allergies around the world.  People who are allergic to these items but ingest them anyway run the risk of suffering a reaction.  Allergic reactions to food vary depending on one’s intolerance to the item and the amount of it consumed.  At its worst, an individual may suffer anaphylaxis, which is a severe and life-threatening response that must be treated immediately.

Escalator Injuries

by Administrator 4. June 2009 01:57

Escalators are a modern convenience, allowing us to easily avoid the exertion associated with climbing a flight of stairs. They are especially ubiquitous in malls and shopping centers, where climbing a set of stairs with your arms full of shopping bags may be difficult. However, escalators are a common source of injury, and property owners have a responsibility to minimize the safety risks associated with their use.

Common Causes of Escalator Injuries

Escalator injuries frequently involve small children, but the rate of escalator injury to elderly adults has nearly doubled since 1990. Many of the injuries caused by escalators occur as a result of reckless behavior, but a defective escalator can present a severe hazard to anyone who uses it. Some of the more common causes of escalator injuries may include:

Attempting to pass someone on an escalator
Trying to walk or run up the steps rather than standing
An escalator that stops unexpectedly, potentially throwing a rider or causing them to fall
Attempting to go the opposite direction of the escalator
An escalator that does not have the proper protective features at the top and bottom

Contacting an experienced Cincinnati escalator injury attorney after you have been injured is extremely important, as discovering who is liable for your injuries can be extremely difficult.

Pedestrian Accidents

by Administrator 4. June 2009 01:39

When we travel by foot, most of us are reasonably aware of the drivers on the road. However, we often fail to appreciate the full extent of the danger we are placed in by walking on a sidewalk that is, in most cases, only a few feet away from moving vehicles. One false move by a driver could send their car hurtling onto the sidewalk, potentially resulting in drastic injury or even death for nearby pedestrians.

If you or a loved one has suffered from an accident caused by a reckless or negligent automobile driver, you may be eligible for compensation. Contact the Cincinnati pedestrian accident attorneys of the Law Office of Shawn M. Stepleton today at 513-321-7733 to learn more about your legal options.

What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident

If you have been injured by a driver while on foot, the first thing you should do is contact the police. If you believe the driver may attempt to flee the scene, write down their license plate number. In many cases, medical insurance will not cover injuries caused by car accidents, which may include pedestrian accidents, so it is extremely important to discover the identity of the driver.

In addition, it is relatively easy for a court or insurance company to analyze the damage to a car after an accident in order to determine who was at fault. However, it is not as simple to “analyze” the injuries on a human body, and police testimony can often be the key factor in winning your case. As you navigate the legal issues surrounding your injury, you will want to have an experienced Cincinnati pedestrian accident lawyer on your side.
