Despite the continuing efforts of numerous public service organizations and government programs, driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be pervasive in the United States, causing over 41% of traffic deaths. In most jurisdictions, a driver is considered to be driving under the influence of alcohol if his or her blood alcohol level (BAC) is over .08%. This is usually measured by breathing into an electronic machine called a Portable Breath Tester, often referred to as a “Breathalyzer”. Additionally, a suspect may be required to submit blood or urine in order to determine his or her blood alcohol content.

Some of the most common symptoms of drunk driving include:

• Turning with a wide radius
• Driving over the center lane marker
• Almost striking another vehicle or stationary object
• Weaving across the road.

All of these actions create hazardous conditions on the road and subject other innocent drivers to unnecessary risks.
