Choosing the Right Daycare Center
The decision to leave your child with another individual or company can be extremely difficult, especially if you are a first time parent. How can you be assured that you are trusting the right people and that your child truly will be safe?
The following tips are intended to help you choose a daycare facility that is right for you and your child. By considering these items, you can hopefully ensure a safe and secure environment for your child to enjoy when you cannot be present.
Visit all potential daycare centers yourself before choosing one. While word of mouth is a great way to begin your search, you never want to leave your child in an environment that you have not personally examined.
- While visiting a daycare facility, be on the lookout for any safety hazards. Are there uncovered electrical outlets? Are there dangerous toys or other items left within reach of children?
- Talk to the staff carefully and ask as many questions as possible. How long have the employees been working there? Do they have any previous childcare training or certifications?
- If possible, talk to parents who also send their children to that day care facility. Ask them what they like about it and what they dislike about it?
- Do the other children in that facility appear to be happy and taken care of? Are the staff members paying enough attention to the children in their care?
